In July 2007, Underground Solutions, Inc. (UGSI) supplied its Fusible C-900® pipe for a new drinking water pipeline installed at the Sunnyvale Towne Center project site. Roberts & Brune (UGSI distributor) supplied the pipe to Preston Pipelines (project general contractor). Cal Fusion, a licensee of UGSI's patented fusion technology, provided the fusion services. The new water line was installed via direct bury.
The original design called for fully restrained C900 bell & spigot PVC on the mainline and service laterals. By using Fusible C-900®, Preston Pipelines was able to fuse the pipe into desired lengths prior to excavating the trench. Additionally Fusible C-900® provided a fully restrained, leak-free joint, allowing Preston to eliminate all restraining collars on the 12" water line while using standard MEGALUG® restraints at the fitting and valve locations. Fusible C- 900® reduced overall project material costs and installation time.
Reed Mack, owner of Roberts & Brune stated, "This is certainly one of the most exciting technologies to come into the infrastructure industry in the last 20 years. It changes the entire game. We are extremely pleased to be a distributor for the Fusible PVC® family of products."
Kurt Vincelette President of Cal Fusion commented, "Fusible C-900® is state of the art technology. UGSI found a way to offer the water industry's most commonly used pipe material - PVC - with a fusible option that provides lower overall installed costs compared to conventional pipe materials used for direct bury and trenchless applications. Market validation and confidence is demonstrated on projects like these."
