In February 2009, Underground Solutions, Inc. (UGSI) contracted with C.P. Construction, Inc. of Upland, CA to provide UGSI's Fusible C-900® pipe and fusion services for Eastern Municipal Water District's (EMWD) Norma Drive, Quail Valley Water System Improvement Project.
Due to the close proximity of the new waterline alignment to septic leach fields, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) required EMWD to utilize a gasket-less pipe system. In addition to the CDPH requirement for a pipe system free of gasketed joints, the soil in the project area was highly corrosive, ruling out ductile iron or steel pipe. Based on these conditions, and the fact that Fusible PVC® pipe could easily connect to EMWD's existing PVC bell-and-spigot pipe using standard fittings, Fusible C-900® pipe was the ideal pipe material.
John Blough of C.P. Construction, Inc. commented: "Anytime a fully-restrained bell-and-spigot or gasketfree pipe system is required, UGSI's Fusible C-900® pipe makes perfect sense. It's fully-restrained fused joint and acceptance of standard fittings saves time and money in the field."
Jeff Allred of Eastern Municipal Water District agreed: "Utilizing Underground Solutions' Fusible PVC® pipe gave us the ability to satisfy the CDPH requirement of a gasket-less pipe system without having to use a pipe material that requires the use of special fittings for reconnection."
